Job Responsibilities

Golder Associates is seeking an Intermediate Geochemist to join its dynamic Mine Environment team, the applicant can be based in one of three cities: Calgary, Vancouver, or Toronto.  As a key member of the team, you will be involved in a broad range of responsibilities:

  • Manage and provide technical expertise on mining, oil and gas, and environmental geochemistry projects;
  • Conduct environmental investigations including soil, rock, groundwater, and surface water sampling;
  • Evaluate and interpret environmental data;
  • Geochemical characterization of mine waste;
  • Mass balance and geochemical modeling;
  • Preparation of reports;
  • This position will initially involve working under the supervision of senior team members, with the opportunity to rapidly assume increasing autonomy and responsibility.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • A post-graduate degree in geochemistry, hydrogeology, or related geosciences with a focus on mining or oil and gas related activities;
  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience conducting and assessing geochemistry projects related to mining or oil and gas is required;
  • Knowledge of application and limitation of geochemical testing methods related to acid rock drainage and metal leaching;
  • Skill in field programs and sampling techniques;
  • Experience with interpretation of laboratory testing of water-rock/soil interactions;
  • Strong, all-round academic knowledge of geochemistry, surface water and groundwater interactions, hydrology, water treatment and chemical hydrogeology related to mining environments;
  • Experience with industry-standard geochemical software such as PHREEQC, Geochemist’s Workbench, and GoldSim;
  • Strong abilities with respect to data manipulation;
  • Registered professional engineer or geoscientist;
  • All candidates must have excellent verbal and written communications skills and a strong commitment to quality and timely delivery of services;
  • Strong interpersonal, team building and critical thinking skills are essential;
  • Mine Environment group projects include working with multi-disciplinary teams and an ability to work in this environment is required; and,
  • Knowledge of other mining related disciplines would be highly advantageous.
