Job Responsibilities

Golder Associates' Mining Division provides surface and underground engineering to mines throughout Canada and internationally. The Mining Division of our Calgary Office has an opening for a Civil/Geotechnical Tailings Engineer. The successful candidate will:

  • Provide geotechnical engineering support to mine waste and tailings management projects;
  • Work with other professionals in project teams;
  • Carry out analyses and design work for projects at stages ranging from scoping to detailed engineering and construction;
  • Coordinate and direct laboratory testing programs;
  • Travel to mine sites to carry out geotechnical investigations, instrument installation, and construction quality assurance for dams; and
  • Support preparation of high quality reports on time and within budget.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering, with a focus on geotechnical and soil mechanics skills;
  • 0-2  years’ experience in geotechnical/mining consulting;
  • Experience in problem solving with industry standard commercial computer software including AutoCAD, Geo-slope, Rocscience, MS Office, Soilvision, tailings deposition planning tools and/or mining software such as Surpac and Vulcan;
  • Willingness to travel as directed by project requirements;
  • Proven capabilities in planning and supervising geotechnical subsurface investigations and in writing geotechnical reports and technical communications;
  • Proven capabilities working productively in project teams; and
  • Eligibility to register as an Engineer-In-Training in Alberta with a view to working towards registration as a Professional Engineer.
